Horse Care students at the Australian College of Animal Care have a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with one of the world’s rarest and most captivating horse breeds—the Norwegian Fjord Horse—at Tarcombe Fjord Horse Stud.

Located on the historic Tarcombe property in regional Victoria, this ethical, welfare-first stud offers students an immersive learning experience in equine care, handling, and horsemanship. Fjord horses are renowned for their calm, intelligent, and people-oriented nature, making them ideal for learners developing confidence and practical handling skills.

What makes Tarcombe truly special is its commitment to thoughtful, small-scale breeding rooted in the five domains of animal welfare. Each foal is raised with care and respect for their individuality, ensuring physical and emotional wellbeing from day one. Students will engage in real-world, welfare-centred practices—ranging from herd management using the equicentral method, to daily handling, grooming, health care routines, and more.

If you enrol under the Blended Learning option that includes access to Tarcombe Fjords, there are no additional costs as it is already included in your course fees.

If you are enrolled in the distance program and wish to complete some components at Tarcombe Fjords, additional fees for attending the workshops will apply.
