TEXTBOOKS & RESOURCES

TEXTBOOKS

For our Qualification Students

To keep your studies affordable, we’ve carefully selected the essential textbooks for your course. Your enrolment confirmation email and Course Handbook will clearly list any mandatory textbooks that you will need to purchase. It’s really important that you have access to all mandatory texts for your learning journey. Please note that the cost of these textbooks isn’t included in your course fees.

Short Course Students

Great news! If you’re enrolled in a short course, we’ll provide you with any necessary textbook chapters directly, unless we’ve specifically let you know otherwise.

ACVN Students

All students undertaking qualifications with ACVN will need to purchase the BSAVA Textbook of Veterinary Nursing, 6th Edition.

If you’re studying a Certificate III or IV qualification, you’ll also need to get a copy of the Introduction to Veterinary Anatomy & Physiology, 4th Edition. You can also use the 3rd edition, but the page numbers may be slightly out.

For all other resources, we’ve got you covered – we’ll provide them!

LEARNER’S GUIDES

For every course (except RPL pathways), you’ll receive printed Learner’s Guides absolutely free of charge.

Depending on your specific course, you might receive one folder or several. If your course has multiple folders, just a heads-up: your next folder will be sent once you’ve completed all the requirements for your current one. This helps you stay on track and focus on each stage of your learning.

Just so you know, digital (PDF) versions of our Learner’s Guides and other resources aren’t available at this time. We believe the printed guides offer the best learning experience. After all, who doesn’t love doodling in the margin and highlighting fun facts?

If you ever need a replacement for a Learner’s Guide, an entire folder, or any other resource we’ve provided, there’s a small replacement fee. You can find all the details about this on the Fees page of this handbook.

FURTHER READING & RESEARCH

While we provide you with all the core materials you need to successfully complete your course, along with the mandatory textbooks, we highly recommend diving into further reading, including relevant journal articles. For our Diploma students, this additional exploration is an essential part of your learning.

To support your deeper learning, we offer access to a wide selection of textbooks through our online Library. You’ll need to be logged into the Student Gateway to access the Library, as it provides the secure credentials you’ll use to access the textbooks on the Wiley Online platform.

We understand that subscribing to individual journal articles can be costly. We suggest chatting with your workplace to see what resources they might have available.

For a more affordable way to access many journals online, we recommend checking out the UK’s RCVS Library Trust. They offer a budget-friendly subscription model specifically for veterinary nurses: http://knowledge.rcvs.org.uk/

You might also consider becoming a member of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (VNCA) to receive their journal as a membership benefit. Other valuable options include subscribing to The Veterinary Nurse, or joining the NZ Veterinary Nursing Association (NZVNA) and the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA), as journal access is often included in their membership packages too.
